First collision at Chesterville intersection since improvements put up

CHESTERVILLE — A crossover-type car collided with a minivan at the ‘infamous’ Chesterville intersection of County roads 7 and 43 shortly after 4:30 p.m. this evening.

Police are now on scene. People had gathered around the crossover, some of them running, where the driver remained behind the wheel.

It was not immediately clear what direction either vehicle was travelling at the time of the crash. A glaring sunset was taking place at that time. A Nation Valley News staffer on scene shortly after the crash noticed that the intense light of the sunset completely obscured traffic coming from the west, around the slight bend on that portion of 43.

The collision is believed to be the first at the intersection since the United Counties of SD&G put noisy “rumble strip” grooves in the pavement preceding the stop signs and installed flashing red and yellow lights.
