Clonazepam tablets seized from South Stormont pedestrian

SOUTH STORMONT — An SD&G OPP officer intercepted a pedestrian along Highway 138 during the wee hours of the morning today (Jan. 4), leading to charges against a Cornwall man.

Stopped at 2:27 a.m. in the St. Andrews West area, the man provided the officer with false identification, according to police, who say a check of his true identity revealed him to be in contravention of several conditions imposed from previous incidents. Quantities of suspected Clonazepam tablets were also seized upon his arrest.

Police say Shane Blanchard, 27, of Cornwall is charged with: Personation With Intent; Obstruct Peace Officer; Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking; and three counts of Fail to Comply with Recognizance.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall.

Theft from vehicle

NORTH GLENGARRY — A North Glengarry man faces a number of charges triggered by the alleged theft of an item from a vehicle parked in Alexandria on Jan. 3.

SD&G OPP officers intercepted and arrested the individual after responding at 9:12 a.m. to the reported incident. They also discovered him to be in contravention of several conditions imposed previously.

Police say that Corey Helliker, 30, of North Glengarry, is charged with: Theft Under $5,000 from a Motor Vehicle; Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000; and nine counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall.
